Drogheda and Limerick: Politics of art

November 15 - February 28, 2020

Drogheda and Limerick

Since the 1980s, art created by women in Ireland has tended to clearly situate itself in relation to political issues around the body, culminating in the recent upsurge of activism and art-making for the campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment. Focusing explicitly on the conjunction of art and feminism, ‘Elliptical Affinities’ – in Highlanes Art Gallery, Drogheda, and then the Limerick City Gallery of Art – retraces this journey, exploring new genealogies of women’s art indexed to the political. The artists featured in the exhibition are Aideen Barry, Sarah Browne, Amanda Coogan, Dorothy Cross, Pauline Cummins, Rachel Fallon, Patricia Hurl, Jesse Jones, Breda Lynch, Alice Maher, Alanna O’Kelly, Kathy Prendergast and Louise Walsh.
Elliptical Affinities: Drogheda – until 25 January; Limerick – early 2020.
