‘Where Are My Roots?’ is a collection of experiences and stories from former students who attended the European School of Brussels II (EEB2), an international school with almost four thousand students and three hundred teachers representing sixty-five different nationalities. I invited some of my former schoolmates to contribute to the project, sharing their feelings and experiences of attending the school and the struggles they have faced since graduating. I was inspired by a sketchy aesthetic to create my project using an analogue approach making all the visual elements by hand. I mainly used coloured papers, magazines, crayons and paint markers. The project explores the themes of belonging and identity among children who grew up abroad away from their country of nationality. It also explores what it was like growing up in the multicultural EEB2 community and the challenges of searching for your roots. My aim is to bring a sense of community to anyone who has struggled to feel like they belong.
