My practice explores family, emotional inheritance, and the ways memory shapes our identity. Working primarily through figurative painting and drawing, I use domestic materials to set the scene. Discarded cardboard is central to my practice. I remember the instability of moving house and the feeling that home was never entirely secure. Many of my paintings draw from hazy early memories of my father, alongside relationships with my mother, past partners, and myself. Rather than reconstructing these moments literally, I focus on the emotions that remain - the absence, and unease, tenderness, and conflict. Colour becomes a way of mapping relationships; using repeated tones suggest inherited behaviours and emotional parallels, while contrasting colours speak to distance and incompatibility. My mark-making moves between controlled drawing and more aggressive gestures, echoing the instability of memory and the breakdown of communication. Through my work, I question what it means to inherit parts of the people closest to us, and whether it is possible to recognise those inheritances without allowing them to define who we become.
