I explore the interplay of how structures form space through the body, or the body forms space by its presence, the boundaries between interior and exterior, between nature (the body/plants) and the built environment (the architecture). Visually I am interested in two aspects: the tension between what is Visible and what is Hidden, and Transformation through distortion or the interaction of both (the visible and the hidden). I am interested in the notions of restriction (physical/mental), constructing and de-constructing, in effect transformationI explore the interconnectedness and/or alienation of the body, imagined architecture, and how they are reflected in both human experience and the natural world. Trained as an architect, I bring spatial awareness to my practice. I consider how objects occupy space — how they offer refuge, containment, or vulnerability. This spatial sensitivity informs my use of materials and scale and underpins my ongoing interest in the interaction of architecture and the body (the self?): both protective and permeable, held together by memory and history.
