I am an artist, writer and graphic designer based in Dublin. I come up with simple answers to convoluted questions. My work is about human truths. I like to use expressive typography to visually express the tone of my writing. Nearly every piece of work that I’ve ever made comes from an experience or thought that I’ve had on my daily walk. If you walk around for long enough, you’ll eventually bump into something you weren’t expecting to see. My work is about thoroughly examining the thing that you bumped into. My final year project Looking For Nothing is a book about these daily walks. For a period of around 3 months, I brought a camera with me, taking pictures of anything I found to be interesting. As the book goes on, the photos gradually go from landscapes to abstract close up shots. This is to represent your thoughts gradually getting more interesting, when you allow yourself the time to think. Between these photos is an occasional poem. These poems were written about the things I saw. The type meanders down the page to represent the act of wandering. I wanted to make a book that moves more than the average book, so I decided to make this book a flip book. On the right hand side of nearly every spread, there is a word from the poem with the same title as the book. I made the poems throughout the book portrait and the photos landscape in orientation to make the reader move the book even more. The book is housed in a small cigar box. The idea was that you have to go on an adventure, you had to wander to find the book casing. I stumbled into all the objects that I photographed in the book, so I think it’s fitting that the book casing is also a found object.
