My name is Eimear Dowling, I am a grad student of the National College of Art and Design, from Avoca, County Wicklow. My practice is lens based, I incorporate the use of analogue technology to explore the feelings and memories we as humans envision post experience and the deterioration of the original feeling the more we recall. Using locations that provoke universal familiarity of softened realities, I capture the essence of these visions through analogue photography, video projection and polaroid emulsion lifts. Using polaroid emulsion lifts, I create a physically fragmented representation of how our minds alter memories over time, leaving sharp realities behind in order to focus on what gives the most comfort, accompanied by handwritten personal reflections. With video projection and subtitling of personal writing excerpts, I create a narrative depicting how often the mind switches between the reality presently experienced and past moments one sifts through mentally as they return to the environment these memories are built within. Successfully graduating with an Honours Degree in Fine Art Print and expanded print practice, I experiment in layering mediums and exploring landscapes through linework and photography, always looking for different methods to test, knowledge to absorb and incorporate into my practice.
