Erica McMahon explores the complexity of dual nationality through visual symbolism, using animals to express identity. As someone of Filipino and Irish heritage, Erica McMahon exists between cultures that are geographically and environmentally distinct. Rather than presenting dual nationality as conflict, the project frames it as coexistence. The unlikely pairing of these animals celebrates difference and resists pressure to conform to singular identity narratives.Kagubatan is a Filipino term that refers to forest, or ancestral territory. Bogland describes peat-rich wetlands that preserve the past and hold deep historical and cultural significance in Ireland. Together, Kagubatan & Bogland reflect the two cultures she carries within her. This title depicts her own heritage, identity, and sense of belonging.
