Three key sentences can encapsulate the meaning behind my work – Invite vulnerability into your life. Let the softness win you over. Allow the intimacy of connection. My work seeks to draw people together and encourage physical affection through human touch. It examines how intimate connection is negotiated in a time of social and physical isolation; the simple acts of intimacy that are often overlooked. This may motivate the owner to include another person in the act of wearing their jewellery, due to their connective designs and forms that reference the hands and mouth. This work aims to show the different aspects of connection by breaking the collection into 3 parts - bite, touch, & negative space, the forms created between two individuals. Working with natural beeswax and the lost wax casting method, I shape each piece using my own hands, fingerprints and bite marks to include myself directly in the relationship of the jewellery and the wearer. I aim to show these ephemeral expressions of affection between loved ones in a solid, tangible way that can be meaningful to the wearer.
