My practice explores geological formations, erosion and coastal environments through drawing, painting and sculpture. Working with industrial materials, 8ft x 4ft OSB, metal tapes and collected iron ore from Streedagh Beach, Grange, Sligo. I have developed a visual language that acts as an analogue for geological formations. Grounded in site-specific research, my work responds to the physical and atmospheric qualities of the strata at Streedagh Beach, where I create temporal drawings using iron ore directly onto the rockface. Through abstraction and material experimentation, I translate the textures and undulations of the strata into an architectural and geometric visual language that reflects the formation and erosion of these monumental structures. Growing up within a family that builds, repairs, and maintains vintage motorbikes has led me to occupy traditionally male-dominated spaces from an early age. These experiences continue to shape my approach to making, balancing the physicality of large-scale works with close attention to minute surface details. Through this process, I challenge assumptions surrounding gender, labour, and materiality within contemporary art practice.
