-genic stems from the question, “What does scientific data become when we remove its context?” The project explores this through multiple “steps”: a cross-stitch pattern, jacquard punch cards, a piano key bed, and an electronic typewriter. Starting with a handwritten data pattern, each “step” takes data from its predecessor and transmutes it into a new form. Throughout the work’s duration, I “clocked in and out” to alter aspects of the installation. -genic also presents the my workings, offering an insight to the uniformed viewer into the complex system.I'm an interdisciplinary media artist based in Dublin. My practice centres on exploring the overlapping nature of art and science. The rich cultural impact of textiles on technology, data science, and feminist science studies sits at the forefront of my work thematically. I like to bring life to the flatness and esoteric nature of science through process-based work.
