I am a visual artist who works primarily with photography. Throughout my work there is a focus on place and in-between spaces. For over ten years, I have been developing a long-term project where I document my locality in the midlands of Ireland in county Longford. I investigate continual change in the locality, with a formalist style adaptive to the everyday vernacular, building up an extensive archive. I also collaborate with local communities to explore social tropes and hidden histories, reconfiguring the familiar to draw attention to the poetry of the common place. More recently I have been more focused on aspects of County Longford’s Development Plan, 2021-2027, such as the ‘rural settlement cluster zones’. In this project, Rural Area, I examined the various ways in which the experience of space is structured and organised. I was particularly interested in the hierarchy of statutory bodies involved in the planning process and in the potential disconnection between this hierarchy and the everyday lived experience of people in county Longford. In Rural Area, I drew on my local knowledge and his extensive photographic archive to investigate these zones through a conceptual installation. Rural Area was exhibited in The Lab Gallery for the MA group show 'A Perambulation' Jan 2023. In 2023 various works of mine have also been selected for various exhibitions and publications, Shutterhub publication Everyday Delight 2023, Rotterdam Photo Festival 2023, Rua Red Spring Open 'Displacement and Belonging' 2023, Cruthu Arts Festival 2023
