My work investigates the idea of simultaneous sameness and difference. This is derived from my experience growing up with an identical twin sister, and the concept of sharing my physical appearance with another being. From an outside perspective, identical twins can appear as a single, homogenous body, while internally, we exist as distinct individuals with separate identities. I represent this experience through repetition, mirroring, and subtle variations. I tediously silkscreen-print onto 20-metre-long rolls of hemp paper, which pass through tall wooden structures that emphasise the intertwined nature of twin identity. The prints depict winding umbilical cord-like ropes, symbolising the innate connection shared between identical twins. These forms are accompanied by mirrored sets of words that articulate the tension between sameness and difference, interwoven within strings of identical genetic coding.
