My work focuses on nature and how it illuminates the seen and unseen, the spoken and the unspoken hidden in humanity. My process begins by using photography as a form of journalling my walks taken in local areas close to my Kildare home. Once I select my images I use CAD processes to extrapolate aspects of crafting images using a mixture of photographs of local flora and fauna, charcoal. Sometimes I integrate watercolour drawings and other elements from my art practice into the final images to be encapsulated into glass shrines, and with these I create a visual journal that I believe not only illustrates some of my daily everyday emotions upon my walks that are interrupted by the ever presence of nature inherent visual beauty and calmness, but the beauty that can always be found in the ordinary. I specifically choose to embed my imagery inside what I term as a glass shrine or contemplative space as a means to share with others in an abstract way my daily celebration of life and living. Each work is laminated, ground and hand polished. The highly polished surfaces exploit the refraction of light and hyper focus the viewer's attention to the internal imagery captured within each work. From there I create small glass objects using coldworking processes such as lamination, grinding and cutting in order to transform the images into a three dimensional space that transforms with light and gives them life.
