I am an educator and mixed-media painter who resides in Carlow and Dublin. My current body of work explores the function of a protagonist by creating situations in which objects, spatial relationships, and cultural familiarity suggest an inherent meaning that is distinctive to my local surroundings. Multiple layers of paint and the intervention of digital collage are used to create these environments. The said protagonist navigates conflicts between familiarity and alienation, light and darkness, in household settings through gesture, body language, and compositional movement. The painting's composition, which I intentionally set up using one-point perspective and left-to-right interpretation, aims to guide the observer through a staged arrangement, atmosphere, and tension.
