In 2010, the year of his 100th birthday, Sir Denis Mahon gifted his library and archive to the National Gallery of Ireland. The 900 boxes brought from Cadogan Square in London to Merrion Square in Dublin reflect, literally, a century’s collection of books, papers, documents and correspondence, from a man who throughout his life has been an outstanding scholar, connoisseur, collector and campaigner for the arts.
