‘Cities of the World’ at the Butler Gallery features work by Kathy Prendergast and Chris Leach. In her maps of world capitals, Prendergast compresses each city, large or small, and follows her own sense of scale to contain each one on the same size paper. Leach’s ‘Capital Cities’ project comprises 196 tiny drawings of capital cities around the world, drawn with pencil, scalpel and burnishing tools on the gessoed face of an oak block. Together, these works aim to provoke thought and conversations about geography, architecture and politics.
