‘Maurice Marinot – on Paper, in Glass’ at the National Gallery of Ireland celebrates the 20th-century French artist renowned for redefining the expressive potential of glass. Maurice Marinot was part of the radical group of painters known as Les Fauves. He infused glass objects, including vases, flagons, bowls and paperweights, with the intense colours of his paintings. Marinot scored blown glass in new ways, repeatedly submerging his forms in acid to produce deep, precisely incised patterns, and he incorporated air bubbles suspended in glass as integral design elements.
