Mark Swords, this year’s recipient of the award, and the three short-listed nominees, share a world view that brings them beyond the boundaries of Ireland, writes Jenny Fitzgibbon.

As 2010 marks a decade of the AIB Art Prize, it is heartening to see continued support for contemporary art practice. To mark this occasion, the short-listed nominees exhibited their work at the RDS in November. The winner will receive prize money, a show in their nominating gallery and assistance in the production of a monograph. Artists who made the short list demonstrated the ambition needed to develop an international career, while nomination implies these artists have a promising future ahead. The short list this year comprises Richard Mosse, Niamh McCann, Aideen Barry and Mark Swords.
