Livia Hurley investigates Peter Monaghan’s uniquely tectonic installation at Number 1 Grand Parade, Dublin
Successful interventions in buildings by artists are not rare in Ireland, and Peter Monaghan’s specially commissioned art installation Twelve Tones at Number 1 Grand Parade in Dublin is a fine example of a fruitful alliance between artist and architect. This is unsurprising given Monaghan’s masterful employment of architectural devices in the execution of the work, and his skilful attention to detail. Monaghan’s commission was initiated by Sandra Nowlan and John Smyth, directors at OMS and architects of the building, who engaged the artist to address the challenge of enhancing a prominent internal wall lining the three-storey entrance atrium of their building
