The Chester Beatty’s summer exhibition ‘Routes and Realms (al-Masālik wa al-Mamālik)’, is a reflection on a medieval Arabic book of maps from the museum’s Islamic Collection. Composed by 10th-century geographer al-Istakhri, the Book of Routes and Realms contains colour maps of world regions. These are shown alongside a contemporary response from artist Diaa Lagan, whose works incorporate global themes and personal perspectives.
