The National Gallery of Ireland is fortunate to have a rare painting by the 17th-century Dutch master Johannes Vermeer. Woman Writing a Letter, with Her Maid (c. 1670) was presented to the gallery by Sir Alfred and Lady Beit in 1987 and forms part of the gallery’s Beit Collection. For ‘Vermeer Visits’, it is exhibited alongside Vermeer’s Mistress and Maid (c. 1667), which travels from the Frick Collection in New York.
