Jonathan O’Dea’s ‘Material – Art’ at Winns Gallery in London features ten abstract sculptures, exploring the metaphysics and physical science of making art. Using found and repurposed materials, including household and building waste, O’Dea surveys ideas of cohesion, playing with the physical properties and chemical composition of the items when exposed to intense heat and pressure. For the artist, this creates a metaphor of the human condition, sometimes resolved and sometimes chaotic.
