William Crozier (1930–2011), who has a major retrospective at IMMA, was best-known in Ireland for the lyrical landscapes of his home in West Cork from the mid-1980s (exhibited at the West Cork Arts Centre in July and August 2017). The IMMA exhibition, curated by Sean Kissane, presents his early work inspired by the Existentialist movement and the anxieties of the post-war period. Crozier’s time in 1940s Paris, and his encounter with the Existential writings of Jean-Paul Sartre gave a voice to this post-war malaise, and became a touchstone for the work he would make over the next fifty years.
William Crozier: 13 October – 8 April 2018
