‘Wearable art’ is most often applied to jewellery, to pieces that have such a strong sculptural dimension that they blur the boundary between craft/design and fine art.
Although Úna Burke comes from a fashion background (she studied at Limerick Institute of Technology), there is no doubt that she is an artist through and through (Figs 1&2). Most of her sculptures can be worn, but their relationship to the human body is much more complex than the term ‘fashion’ implies.
