Ann Mulrooney charts the revolutions in form and finish that characterise Sonja Landweer’s evolving practice.

Hosannah – both a cry for salvation and a declaration of praise – gives a measure of Heaney’s admiration for Landweer, whose career as an artist so far spans sixty years and a multitude of materials. Elected a member of Aosdána in 1981, she exhibited for many years with David Hendriks Gallery, also Taylor Galleries and currently with the Peppercanister Gallery, Dublin. Yet despite her reputation in her homeland, (she was known as the ‘Dutch Lucie Rie’), she has a remarkably low public profile here in Ireland, where she has lived since 1965.
