Northern Irish artist Mark Francis’ latest exhibition at the Kerlin Gallery is entitled ‘Calibrate’. This term as it is commonly employed refers to a methodology for determining accurate measurement. This is achieved by transposing standard and test units thereby reducing unsought variations in precision and accuracy. Francis has long expressed his interest in scientific micro and macro photography. His interest in mycology – (the study of fungi) is well documented and has featured in a number of works which provide a backdrop to this ongoing fascination with imagery from the micro world.
