A new series of paintings from Paddy McCann at the Dock, Co Leitrim are intense meditations on loss and the passage of time, writes Amanda Croft.
This summer the Dock Gallery in Carrick-on-Shannon launched an initiative to invite an individual artist from Northern Ireland each year to use their galleries as a space for reflection on a place intrinsically linked to Leitrim – a place just up the road – an opportunity to create a body of work that reflects and responds to the nuanced complexities of Northern Ireland’s recent past. The first artist in the series is the Belfast-based painter Paddy McCann, whose exhibition ‘Double Ground’ fits the bill perfectly.
