Entering a New Visual Zone

Since graduating from the National College of Art and Design in 1988, John Cronin has been exhibiting internationally, receiving a major grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, Inc., and was recently selected for a major review of contemporary abstract painters in such eminent company as Callum Innes, Howard Hodgkin and Sean Scully. Writing of Cronin’s 2004 exhibition, ‘Palinode’, New York-based critic Donald Kuspit hailed it as hope for an art, after his end of art theories, writing: ‘…he puts the “juice” back into modernist painting, after Greenberg’s post-painterly theory squeezed it out’ sealing Cronin’s reputation as one of the most exciting abstract painters of his generation.
