Frederick Prussia Plowman: A Dublin Painter of the Late-18th Century

The Painters of Ireland c.1660-1920, by Anne Crookshank and The Knight of Glin, published in London in 1978, was most generously, but appropriately, dedicated ‘To the memory of W G Strickland’. There are already quite noisy rumblings in the corridors of academe that the same duo is preparing a totally revised version of the 1978 volume. This writer would counsel, ‘Take two, three, or four years if necessary, to write the deservedly more ample volume which the 1978 one demands’. The dedication may well be the same as that in the 1978 tome because ‘we are still finding new names in Strickland’
