Desmond FitzGerald was a man of many parts, but he was unique only in being the 29th and, apparently, the last Knight of Glin. He was a man who was fascinated by the provenance of things and not least the source of the 700-hundred-year-old title which he bore and the tradition which he inherited. The wonder is that, after all the oft’ disastrous experiences of his ancestors who nevertheless managed to perpetuate the title, Desmond allowed it to expire. Or did he?
