Paul O’ Reilly previews a major exhibition of new work by John Shinnors which will open in his home town of Limerick on 19 September

These words that follow will centre the reader’s attention on the body of work that comprises Shinnors’ forthcoming exhibition to be held at Limerick City Gallery of Art. Little attention will be directly drawn to individual, personal, anecdotal or biographical details of the painter himself apart or distinct from what the works themselves reveal. Rather, the attempt will be to approach the artist, through his work, saying what can be said about him based on the clues set in the works themselves (Fig 1). It is up to the reader, as it was to the writer, to seek out the works themselves, beyond words and photographic reproductions
