Photographer Gregory Dunn has amassed a visual archive borne out of his need to understand his adopted home, writes Ros Kavanagh

On seeing Gregory Dunn’s images of Dublin, your first thought is to wonder where did he discover these bricked-up entrances, faded murals, bent lamp posts, abandoned grottos and eccentric characters that make up his odd collection. Is this the same city we live in? But how many of us go about our day not seeing or no longer noticing what’s around us? All too often, the remarkable, the absurd or the unexpectedly beautiful, is obscured by the habit of following familiar paths and routines. We stay in the comfort of the mental maps we create to navigate the world around us.
