The consistent reference to Celtic mythology gives Anthony Scott’s work coherence and a unity of purpose, writes Alannah Hopkin

There is no mistaking a piece by Anthony Scott: his bronze animal figures have immense power and character. The animal’s eyes look out at you knowingly, expressing a wide spectrum of attitudes, from the fearless, steadfast gaze of the bull Fergus (Fig 2) to the pitiless eyes of the hunting dogs Iuchar and Iucharba (Fig 1) that strike a shiver in anyone who crosses their path. The Hound of Culainn (Fig 3) has hardly any eye at all, yet the tilt of his head and the eager open jaw indicate an animal with a lively sense of mischief, well aware of his own importance.
