‘From the Archives’ at the National Gallery of Ireland provides a revealing insight into the history of this cultural institution. Chronicling the development of the Merrion Square gallery from 1864 to the present day, this exhibition features a diverse range of items from the NGI archives, library and print room. Throughout the gallery’s history, contemporary artists have remained integral members of the NGI board. Artists appointed governors and guardian’s include John Lavery, Jack B Yeats, Evie Hone and others. Their respective contributions are celebrated in a concurrent exhibition. Well worth a view too is ‘Care of the Collections’, which highlights how the NGI has preserved priceless artworks down the years.
From the Archives: until 14 December; Care of the Collections: until 30 May NGI
