Frances Ruane explores the multifaceted design world of Milan-based Irish artist Nuala Goodman

In the world of contemporary art and design where precisely does Nuala Goodman fit? Her series of portraits initially define her as a painter, though her subjects, key players in Italian design (who also happen to be her friends), suggest that the world of design is her natural milieu. Although she has designed furniture and other objects, including the quirky Eve watch for Swatch, her painted and printed fabrics are where her strength as a designer has had the most impact. In an ambitious installation curated by Rossella Rossi for the Palazzo Fortuny in Venice, Goodman has pulled together all the strands of her practice.
