Frederick Edward ‘Ted’ McWilliam, is one of Ireland and Britain’s foremost sculptors of the 20th century. Born in Newry Street, Banbridge, Co Down, on 30 April 1909, the fourth child and second son to Dr and Mrs William McWilliam, his vivid childhood memories of a country town, made prosperous by the linen industry, show his early fascination with the craftsmen who practised their skills there
