Medb Ruane comes face to face with Colin Davidson’s portrait of Duke Special, the winner of the Ireland-US Council/Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award at the RHA 180th Annual Exhibition
The artist known as Duke Special once wrote a song called Portrait. “Paint my picture if you must, please remember to be kind…,” he sang. Duke’s singular style and funky retro music won him Best Irish Male at the 2008 Meteor Awards. Now he’s the subject of Colin Davidson’s new painting, which is the winner of the Ireland-US Council/Irish Arts Review Portraiture Award at the RHA.
