Sarah Purser was a hugely influential figure in Irish artistic circles in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, both as an artist and as an organiser. She was an indomitable character with seemingly boundless energy, a cosmopolitan patriot who was both a member of the establishment and an agitator for change. George Russell proclaimed, ‘The instant she enters a room, all the needles of being point to her. Here comes someone who is intensely alive.’
