Peter Murray examines the oeuvre of Frederick Buck, whose portrait practice flourished during the Regency period

The death, in March 2009, of Rosemary ffolliott, who lived for many years at Fethard, Co Tipperary, brought to an end the career of a distinguished genealogist who contributed much to Irish historical studies. In 1958, in her early twenties, ffolliott wrote a history of her mother’s family, who had settled in Cork in the 17th century, entitled Pollet Virtus: The Pooles of Mayfield. Over the following decades her researches extended to families in counties Cork and Kerry, using primary sources such as the Registry of Deeds, and also newspapers published in the 18th century.
