Michael Warren has worked with a wide range of materials over the forty years of his activity as a sculptor, but the material that he started with, and that he has turned to more often than to any other alternative, is wood. His relationship with wood is founded in his practical experience of direct carving, but it has also evolved as a conceptual focus for his thinking about sculpture more generally.
