On the 4 November 1791 an elaborate new vehicle, the State Coach of the Lord Mayor of Dublin, made its first appearance on the streets of the city (Figs 3 & 4). The occasion was a procession to celebrate an important annual event in the social and political calendar in Dublin, the birthday of William III.
