Jenny Fitzgibbon looks at how spatial relationships from the macro to the micro are investigated in Isabel Nolan’s solo show at the Model, Sligo this winter
‘A Hole in the Future’ the title of Isabel Nolan’s solo exhibition currently at the Model gallery in Sligo, suggests there is something other-worldly about the work on show. The exhibition incorporates sculpture, painting and drawings, created labour-intensively during the past eighteen months. The main feature of the exhibition is an outdoor steel sculpture commissioned by the Model for their permanent collection. Nolan has responded with a series of looping forms jauntily sited on a grassy embankment. The contemporary structure is designed to compliment the 19th-century façade of the recently redeveloped building.
