My first introduction to the Poole family of photographers began when I received a gift from my late father-in-law of a box of turn of the century picture postcards. Many of the postcards in the collection were addressed to A H Poole of 2 Bellevue Terrace, Waterford. This terrace is situated on an elevated position midway up John’s Hill, one of the historic highways into the city. This fine residential terrace of tall three-storied houses resembles to this day sentries standing guard over the city.
