Compared to metal and marble sugar and wax may seem like frivolous materials but sculptor Brenda Jamison is made of sterner stuff, as Brian McAvera discovers

Brian McAvera: Ten years down the line, where do you want to be?
Brendan Jamison: I’ve always been very ambitious but I think it’s important to evolve naturally. When I left art college I knew artists who had five and ten year plans but unfortunately they failed to live up to their own expectations and ended up going into teaching. That kind of question works in the business world but not in the creative field. It’s a mistake. Year on year, I’m pushing my limits through more studio experimentation but I don’t have a clearly defined goal, beyond staying focused and continuing to move my practice forward.
