Barrie Cooke’s new series of paintings at the Kerlin Gallery, Dublin, take inspiration from his pandemic sense of nature, writes Gerry Walker
Barrie Cooke takes the view that people have special and unshakable places in their lives. In the past he has specifically referred to the rainforests in Malaysia where he says he discovered what growth entailed, the bogs of Ireland where growth has gone into hibernation and the Burren in Co Clare about which he was, until relatively recently, still uncertain. He spoke about being nurtured by its womanly combination of barrenness and richness. This is revealing in many ways. It speaks of his sense of the significance of place and the nature and depth of his engagement with natural phenomena
