Assuming that we accept – as I do at least – Jack Yeats to be the premier Irish painter of the past century, then who has been his most gifted successor? There are a whole cluster of candidates, though not perhaps, one who almost unarguably stands out over his or her competitors. In the end it is largely a matter of subjective opinion and from this angle, Patrick Collins has as good a claim as anybody
